Group Cosplay

Ahh...cosplay. A word that is two squished-together words. That insane hobby embraced by fandom geeks around the world. Whether you go to a Star Trek convention, a comic convention, a Lord of the Rings convention, even a Harry Potter convention; people will be in costumes. Costumes can be simple and inexpensive to complicated and bank-breaking. But if it's your thing, it can be great fun. :)
Our first solo cosplays were worn to Anime Expo 2000, and our first general group cosplay was worn AX02. With Anime Expo 2004 looming, our fifth major convention is coming up fast. Cue mad costume making!

This was the year to end all years. Not only did each costume cost about $200 with acsessories, we stalled basically until only a month before to get the major parts done. We were sewing in the hotel room at 3am on the first day of the convention. Gah. They turned out great though, and everyone seemed to enjoy them. Shockingly, they were actually pretty comfy. ^_^
In contrast to the insanity that was the Doremi year, the Sugar cosplay was laid back and relatively simple. All costumes were relatively cheap, and were completed relatively quickly. Animagic is a small relaxing convention, and with exception of the wings, which bonked into things, they were generally easy to wear.
Current Status: Costumes are to be cleaned and hats overhauled for new photos, possibly another convention visit.
Special Thanks to: Wubear, who sewed about 75% of these costumes together by herself.
Current Status: Pepper costume's trim is to be overhauled, with bigger sleeves. As for Sugar and Salt, status unknown.
Special Thanks to: Sinew and a really big needle. No wings otherwise.
Juuni Kokki Cosplay (The Twelve Kingdoms) Meitantei Loki Ragnarok (Detective Loki Ragnarok)
Juuni Kokki (Anime Expo 2004)
Meitantei Loki Ragnarok (Anime Expo 2004)
Members Cosplaying:
E.Morgan [Anrui] as Taiki (Black)
K.Thorne [Wubear] as Enki (Blue)

Members Cosplaying:
L.Gibbons [Kurara] as "True" Loki (Red)
E.Morgan [Anrui] as "Kid" Loki (Black w/staff)
As AX04 isn't until July 2nd, the photo is a "progress" pict. As Anrui is on a massive Juuni Kokki kick right now, she decided to cosplay it...and dragged Wubear in as well. Costumes cost around $30-40 a piece, with Taiki's overrobe fabric being the most expensive part. Utilized previously owned fabric extensively (White everything, black pants, blue sash) Very comfy, but Taiki's layers make Anrui very toasty. AX is in Anaheim. In July. This is gonna be interesting. Am considering adding "The Freshly Boiled Cosplayers" as a group subtitle.
As AX04 isn't until July 2nd, and the costumes aren't done, the photo is a collage of the reference pictures. As Anrui and Kurara were looking for something cheap to cosplay, Anrui decided on Loki due to massive amounts of pre-owned black fabric. Then Kurara had plenty of red fabric. Insta-cosplay! Kid Loki costume cost $0, staff estimated $20-30. True Loki cost unknown, but no staff is really needed. Turning out very nice, but Loki's black fetish makes Anrui veryvery toasty. Am still considering adding "The Freshly Boiled Cosplayers" as a group subtitle.
Current Status: Complete with exception of Enki's wig, Taiki's shoes, and a haircut for Anrui.
Special Thanks to: Having a perfect spare pair of pants for Taiki sitting around. Sewing random things and throwing them in the closet has its advantages.
Current Status: Still under construction, but going well. Staff will be fun. ^^;
Special Thanks to: Probably Anrui's Dad, because he'll be helping her figure out the staff.
